The European parliament’s decision that foods containing genetically modified ingredients must be labelled has angered the US government and farmers Stateside.

A US Department of Agriculture trade official said the move was “unworkable and unenforceable” and that the US would maintain its WTO challenge against the de facto European moratorium on bio-technology foods.

The US is leading a group of 12 countries, including Argentina, seeking to overturn the EU obstacles to foods with genetically modified ingredients.
