The FSA has dropped proposals to launch an inquiry into snack vending machines in publicly funded buildings such as leisure centres.

The agency said that it had hosted a meeting with government departments and stakeholders in January but had no plans for further activity.

Separately, the DfES has concluded consultations on the School Foods Trust report covering children's diets in schools outside lunch hours. Food industry groups believe confectionery, bagged snacks and fizzy drinks are set to be outlawed in guidelines published next month.

The Biscuit Cake Chocolate & Confectionery Association said it feared the removal of vending machines because they were not designed to sell healthy chilled products.
