Kent retailer John Maxwell Jones is putting customers in the picture for National
Independents Day - with an art exhibition in his store.
Maxwell Jones, who runs Burgess Stores in Goudhurst, near Tunbridge Wells, is displaying original work by local artist John Hanson in the shop window and on an adapted gondola in the Post Office part of the store.
The scenic watercolours are on show alongside special displays of English wine and locally sourced foods.
Maxwell Jones said: &"We&'re doing this because it shows how we as a store are supporting local food and drink businesses, but also other enterprises. The rest of the year we sell greetings cards of John Hanson&'s work.&"
The 1,200 sq ft store is to be featured in the Daily Mirror&'s coverage of National Independents Day, which is on 1 June. The day forms part of the Federation of Wholesaler Distributors&' My Shop Is Your Shop campaign.
