An influencial group of Wal-Mart investors has filed a proposal for today’s AGM calling on the board to quantify the impact of a series of scandals and lawsuits by staff and provide a plan to improve the retailer’s reputation.

The New York City Employee Retirement System said it had become increasingly concerned by signs of failure in Wal-Mart’s internal controls that had led to government investigations and class action lawsuits by employees.

Meanwhile campaigners against the retail giant are planning to run a television advertising campaign claiming that it is “not American anymore”.
