Like-for-like sales at US retail giant Wal-Mart fell by 0.1% last month - its first drop since 1996.

It also expects like-for-like sales in December to grow by no more than 1%.

“Comparable sales were stronger in food and consumables than in general merchandise with above average comparable sales in pets, household chemicals, paper goods, health and beauty, food, pharmacy and electronics,” the retailer said in a statement.
