The Mayor of London has awarded funding to the Waterloo Quarter Portas Pilot to run an arts festival next month.
Actors will take up residence in stores to transform window displays and put on street theatre.
Lydia Fraser-Ward, creative director of the project, dubbed Fantasy High Streets, said she was in talks with other Portas towns, including Margate, Wigan and Oxford, with a view to putting on similar events.
“This is more than a gimmick,” she said.
