Mixed quality Some of the predominant Group 3 wheats are of the lowest quality for three years, according to the HGCA. In contrast, the quality of Group 2 varieties is higher than the three-year average. In the first of HGCA's wheat quality updates, estimates suggest that between 35% and 50% of the total wheat crop has been harvested. The popular variety Claire which comprises around 25% of winter wheat seed certifications has lower than average protein levels at 11.1%.
