In his new role Garland will be responsible for developing, managing and selling the company's portfolio of brands, which includes Whyte & Mackay, The Dalmore and Isle of Jura, internationally.
He joins from Beam Global, where he has been vice president of global marketing for two years .
Whyte & Mackay was acquired by United Biscuits two years ago and has since created a new global marketing team, with the objective of growing international business.
"Nick's experience is a perfect fit for our future plans to grow our branded business internationally," said MD Ashwin Malik. "I am in no doubt that he will help us steer our business through the challenging times ahead."
