Researchers have denied reports that chemicals have been added to create aromas in bottles of Sauvignon Blanc sold in supermarkets.
Corkwise said retailers had asked it to investigate whether producers in South Africa and New Zealand were adding flavourings. However, director Geoff Taylor said reports that suppliers were breaking regulations were unfounded.
He said: “The chemicals we were testing for are found naturally in the wine so it’s impossible to say anything binding. However, some wines have higher levels than others and retailers can use our research to ask suppliers if they are doing anything untoward.”
