US food retailer Winn-Dixie said first quarter sales fell 6% and that a plan was already in place to tackle the problem.

Sales for the 12 weeks to September 17 fell to $2.67bn from $2.83bn last year as like-for-like store sales dropped 6.6%.

Winn-Dixie noted it ha implemented a plan to increase sales through “promotional activity, lower prices, improved service, cleaner stores, neighbourhood-specific marketing and increased capital expenditures for remodelling - especially lighting improvements”.
