The Competition Commission has provisionally cleared Woolworths' acquisition of book wholesaler Bertram Group.

The merger would not result in a substantial lessening of competition in the supply of books to supermarkets and other retailers, the Commission said in its provisional findings.

“The company is pleased that the transaction has been provisionally cleared and will continue to work closely with the Commission through to its final decision which is due by no later than 17 September, 2007,” Woolworths said in a statement.
