High street retailer Woolworths has reported a 3.7% increase in like-for-like sales for the eight weeks to 28 July.

This increase meant like-for-like sales for the full-year had increased by 0.7%, the retailer said in a trading update.

“While we are encouraged by the sales performance across the group to date, we are mindful that the retail like-for-like performance is against weak comparatives and we continue to be cautious about the retail environment going forward,” added Woolworths CEO Trevor Bish-Jones.
