Retailers from around the world have begun work on the industry's new Global Food Safety initiative. Launched in June by trade body CIES, it aims to develop common global standards that will protect consumers and boost their confidence in the safety of the food they are buying. A task force, headed by newly-appointed CIES food safety director Hugo Byrnes, is running the initiative. It has set up three working parties to finalise the criteria that will be used to evaluate food safety standards. The groups will also identify a suitable auditing and accreditation system. {{NEWS }}
