An offbeat campaign to promote Alka-Seltzer hangover cures starts this week with an animated TV advertisement. The commercial shows a cartoon solar system with a hungover Earth bumping into sober planets across the universe. After taking Alka-Seltzer it gets back to normal with the strapline: Alka-Seltzer XS, for when you're not feeling on top of the world.' The adverts run in sync with regional marketing activities targeting students and the youth market, including a postcard campaign in London bars. Manufacturer Bayer will follow up the three week pre-Christmas campaign with a new National Hangover Day on New Year's Day 2001. Drinkers will be advised of the day and of hangover reduction strategies through consumer magazines and newspapers. {{P&P }}
