Alfa-Beta buys Plus Hellas
ATHENS: Delhaize-owned Alfa-Beta has acquired Greek retailer Plus Hellas from rival Tengelmann. The €69.5m (£51.8m) deal includes 33 stores and a new 36,000 sq m distribution centre. Delhaize will convert the Plus Hellas stores, which achieved sales of £62m in 2007, to the Alfa-Beta fascia. Alfa-Beta said the acquisition reinforced its position in Greece, where it is the second-largest supermarket behind Carrefour.
