Carrefour unveils city centre format

PARIS: Carrefour has opened the first of a new breed of city centre stores in Madrid. The pilot Carrefour City outlet has selling space of around 3,550 sq ft and four checkouts. Its product range is made up of 4,000 items, with a split of 90% food and 10% non-food. It is an "urban" product offer, including prepared foods, newspapers, pet food and necessities such as light bulbs. The stores have bakery facilities and a prominent fresh fruit and veg selection. Carrefour City stores will be located in city centres where there is a scarcity of larger commercial plots.
