Landfill crisis wrecks food sales

NAPLES: Mozzarella sales in Naples have fallen by 40% due to fears of contamination as rubbish piles up on the streets of the city because of landfill sites being full. The army is sending shiploads of waste for disposal in Sardinia, but consumers fear air and water has been contaminated. Other traditional artisan foods from the Campania region have also been hit, with sales of oil and wine down 25%, and 35% of fruit and veg unsold, according to the Italian Agricultural Confederation.
