Lianhua cools Carrefour controversy
SHANGHAI: China's largest grocery retailer Lianhua has played down the threat posed by calls to boycott Carrefour, with which it has a joint venture in Shanghai. Carrefour continues to be the target of Chinese campaigners, angry over pro-Tibet protests during the Olympic torch relay in Paris. "As I am Chinese I understand the feelings of protesters against Carrefour. But as a businessman, I have to bear in mind that people will calm down. It's just a matter of time, so we hope to compete by our reputation and service," said Lianhua chairman Wang Zhigang.
