Metro Group trials futuristic store

TOENISVORST, GERMANY: Metro Group has opened a futuristic store in the Rhineland town of Toenisvorst, to test innovative concepts and technologies with a view to wider roll-out. Shoppers will be able to pay for their food with a fingerprint, use their mobile to scan items for information about a product, and taste wines at a counter that will dispense 16 chilled wines into testing cups at the push of a button. An RFID system in the freezers will monitor stock levels and best-before dates, updating itself every time a customer removes an item.
