Shoprite Group sales soar 16%

Shoprite Group has reported a 16.2% increase in sales to ZAR38.9bn (£2.72bn) for the year to end June 2007. Sales in Shoprite stores rose 14.2% despite strikes over pay in the first half of the financial year. Sales in its Checkers stores rose 15%, while sales in its Usave stores were up 35.2%. Sales in its operations outside South Africa grew 29.1%, boosted by strong trade in Zambia, Mozambique, Angola and Nigeria
