Woolworths' half-year profit up


Sydney: Australian grocery chain Woolworths has reported a 28.1% increase in half-year net profit to AUS$891.3m (£419m) on sales up 8.6% at AUS$24bn (£11.3bn). Sales in its supermarket division in Australia rose 7.8% to AUS$18.1bn (£8.5bn) for the 27 weeks to 30 December, while sales in its New Zealand business rose 6.8% to NZ$2.48bn (£1.02bn). "Woolworths is well-positioned and continues to reinvest in each businesses," said chairman James Strong.
