Woolworths sales rise 13%

Sydney: Supermarket chain Woolworths has reported a 12.6% increase in full-year sales to A$42.3bn (£18bn). In its Australian supermarket division, which includes 766 stores, food and alcohol sales rose 9% to A$27.7bn (£11.8bn), boosted by a price-cutting campaign and an improved fresh food offer. Like-for-like grocery sales rose 6.6%. In its New Zealand supermarket division, sales rose 51.2% to A$3.9bn (£1.6bn), following the acquisition of Foodland in 2005.
