Morrisons has claimed a UK first for a major supermarket by gaining Red Tractor accreditation for all its fresh meat.

The retailer, the only supermarket to sell 100%- British across its fresh meat range, will now put the Red Tractor on all packs of beef, lamb, pork, chicken and turkey. A small amount of Soil Association-certified organic chicken is the only fresh meat not audited by Assured Food Standards, Morrisons confirmed.

"The Red Tractor is an important quality mark for consumers and farmers," said AFS chief executive David Clarke. "We are delighted Morrisons is showing its total commitment to the best in British agriculture."

Although meat and produce from outside the UK is not barred from applying, there are not thought to be any examples of products using the Red Tractor logo with another EU flag.
