Midcounties Co-op’s food business has posted record results for the Christmas period, with sales up by 5.2% and like for likes up 1.8% for the three weeks to 5 January.

“Although 2012 has been a tough trading year for everyone,” said chief executive Ben Reid, “Our continued growth demonstrates that in a highly competitive market, we are providing the quality offer and service our members and customers want.”

“Our performance over Christmas in our food business, and significant growth in energy over the past 12 months, puts us in a confident mood,” he added. “We are well positioned to continue our exciting development in 2013.
