The return of the traditional cooked breakfast and an increase in products from the Amazon could be the main supermarket trends of 2007, Mintel has predicted.

Exotic fruits from the Amazon such as açaí and cupuaçu could improve in popularity because of their anti-aging benefits and link to the 'superfoods' concept, while manufacturers will search for ways to bring more traditional aspects of the breakfast back into play, it said.

"We're talking about trends, not fads here, so we predict that all of these developments will be around for some time to come,” said David Jago, Director of GNPD Custom Solutions at Mintel.
