Danish meat specialist Tulip is to close its site at Bromborough, with the potential loss of 300 jobs.

Cooked bacon production will also cease at its Thetford facility, with a potential 75 job cuts.

The UK’s biggest pork producer, which is owned by The Danish Crown Group, blamed the worsening state of the economy for the job cuts.

“We have been working hard to reduce our operating costs; being the lowest-cost producer has never been more important,” said north east managing director Peter Judge.
