Tesco takes the trophies Tesco has scooped the awards for the best retail everyday and seasonal ranges at the fourth British Turkey Product of the Year awards. They were presented at the Lanesborough Hotel in London by TV celebrity chef Patrick Anthony. This year's categories rose from seven to 10 and attracted a high level of interest from all the major multiples. Tesco came top for its strong British theme, variety of range and colourful presentation. Meanwhile, Asda won the award for turkey drumsticks in the best primary own label category, and was highly commended for its fresh portions range in the best retail everyday category. Safeway's turkey breast joint with lemon butter and pepper won the best own label processed award, while the Co-op was highly commended for its thigh joint stuffed with pork, sage and onion stuffing. Best branded products included Bernard Matthews pan fry steaks, and Kerry Foods' Simple Pleasures complete turkey joint with traditional stuffing, sausages, bacon and gravy. Boxley's of Wombourne took the honours for the best speciality, and English Provender's wild cranberry sauce was voted best accompaniment ahead of Centura Foods highly commended spiced orange, date and toasted almond stuffing. {{NEWS }}
