Bart Spices has been sold to private equity group Langholm Capital following a management buy-out.

Langholm, which owns the Tyrrells Potato Crisps brand, supplied the cash for a takeover by chief executive Matthew Shaw. The value of the deal has not been disclosed.

Bart Spices was founded in 1963. The Bristol-based company is one of the UK’s largest suppliers of herbs and spices.

Langholm swooped for the Tyrrells crisp brand in April 2008 for an estimated £40m.

The venture capital group previously owned Dorset Cereals and counts former Marks & Spencer executive Steven Esom (pictured) among its partners.
