United Biscuits has vowed to reduce the amount of salt and saturated fats in its products.

Releasing half-year results to July 16, the maker of McVitie’s biscuits and KP nuts, said that fast growth in healthy biscuits and snacks had helped it report a 15.7% increase in profits from £64.9m to £75.1m.

Turnover rose 6.3% to £613.2m despite a “continuing highly competitive retail environment” said Malcolm Ritchie, chief executive of United Biscuits.
