A US brewer has launched an ‘extreme beer’ in an effort to claw back the slipping market share for beer in the country.

The beer, called Utopias, from brewer Sam Adams, contains up to 25% alcohol and is designed to appeal to cocktail drinkers.

The market share for beer in the US has slipped from 56% to 53.2% in the past six years, with more consumers opting to drink wine or spirits.
