A government vet who spent two days at the Bernard Matthews farm in Lowestoft, Suffolk, at the centre of a bird flu outbreak, has tested negative for the disease.

The vet had been admitted to hospital with a mild respiratory illness and was tested for the avian flu strain H5N1 found at the farm.

Earlier, the Health Protection Agency had said: “It is highly unlikely the worker has been exposed to H5N1 because of the strict precautionary measures followed.”
