Inflation slowed in October, according to the latest government figures. The Office for National Statistics today said its Retail Price Index measured inflation at 5.4% in October, marking a slight easing from the 5.6% rate seen the month before.
Better but not great was the message from the high street after retailers reported a marginal improvement in sales last month. But there were worrying signs for grocers as June sales figures from the Office for National Statistics showed a slowdown in the previously resilient food sector.
