Exclusive Tim Palmer A new easily recognisable Chilean wine brand is being developed by one of its major producers, Empresas Lourdes. Subsidiary Vistamar, set up in 1997 to introduce new wines into specific markets, has created the Vistamar range which begins at £4 with twin varietals. At the pinnacle is icon wine Vistamar' which will retail over £10. Vistamar's key off trade style Southern Breeze will be launched in March. Samples are being sent to suppliers. The four twin varietals: Semillon/Chardonnay, Chardonnay/Sauvignon Blanc, Cabernet/Merlot and Cabernet/Malbec will retail at £4.49. In the launch period they will be discounted to £3.49. Southern Breeze single varietals (Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and Merlot) will sell at £5.49. Beyond these at £6.99 is Niebla range of four single varietals. Export manager Jaime Merino said the company had done its homework and carried out consumer research. "We wanted to create a brand image that would be eyecatching on the supermarket shelves." Once it is listed, the brand will be supported by promotions and merchandising. "We are one of the few companies to come to the UK with the right package. This includes a quality product, the right packaging and labelling, and the right support. "We want to be a strong competitor and one of the strong Chilean brands with an identifiable Chilean style." {{DRINKS }}
