Waitrose has enticed Pierpaolo Petrassi MW from Tesco to become its new head of beers, wines and spirits.
Petrassi, who is currently senior product development manager for wine at Tesco, will join Waitrose in July to manage the retailer’s team of drinks buyers.
The Master of Wine will also head up the Waitrose’s vineyard project in Hampshire, which aims to produce its first sparkling wine vintage in 2014.
“Petrassi brings with him a wealth of commercial experience as well as a passion and enthusiasm for wine,” said Suzanna Duke, Waitrose director of buying.
“This role will now also include beers and spirits and Pierpaolo is excited to be working across the entire BWS category.”
