Waitrose has been crowned best Bramley retailer in the 2010 Brammy Awards after introducing new polybags to encourage shoppers to buy more of the apples.
The judges also praised its website for providing inspiration and easy-to-follow instructions for customers on how to cook with Bramley apples.
Waitrose had worked hard to champion the Bramley, said its fruit buyer, David Mitchell. "We are delighted to have been able to introduce more customers to this variety."
The retailer also won best manufacturer of a savoury Bramley product for its English Pork and Bramley Apple Sausages.
Greencore Cakes and Desserts won the sweet product award for its Sainsbury's Bramley Apple Pie. The first-ever consumers' choice award went to Colman's Bramley Apple Sauce, and Cottage Delight was named best manufacturer of a Bramley sauce.
