Wal-Mart has joined forces with leading Californian winemaker E & J Gallo to provide an own label wine range which will go into its stores world-wide. Gallo has created the Alcott Ridge collection which will arrive at the 21 Asda Wal-Mart hypermarkets in the UK at the beginning of November. It is being released to Wal-Mart stores elsewhere in the world this month. The range features four key varietals in the premium wine sector -- Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Merlot and White Zinfandel. The first three will retail at £5.99 and the Zinfandel will be £4.69. The wine department is still considering promotional activity for the wines which will include point of sale material. A UK spokeswoman for the group said: "This is the first time we have done this kind of collaboration and we are not committed to any other similar deals at this stage." Jock Soper, Gallo's spokesman in California said: "Wal-Mart gives Gallo the opportunity to offer top quality wines to an extensive international customer base." John Ryan, senior vice president of Wal-Mart global sourcing said: "It provides us the opportunity as a global retailer to work with a global wine company. "Our customers deserve the selection and value that we are providing. Many are demanding a greater selection of wine at prices they can afford. We believe that Alcott Vineyards will help us meet that demand." {{DRINKS }}
