Welsh producer the Authentic Curry Company has struck a hot deal with a compatriot brewer to introduce a new ready meal.
Tesco has become the first chain to stock the resulting Welsh Beef in Brains Dark Ale curry and this week introduced the newcomer to chillers in 30 of its Welsh stores. The product also includes Prince’s Gate water.
Dreamed up by Authentic Curry Company owner Paul Trotman, the £2.29 single-serve meal is an extension of the firm’s foodservice arrangement with Brains the brewer. The company, which employs 35 people and has a turnover of more than £2m, already produces meals for the brewer’s estate of public houses.
Trotman, who recently received a True Taste prize for the product in the recent Wales Food and Drink Awards, said: “I thought that if you could use ale in pies and casseroles, then why not in curry?”
