Wensleydale Dairy Products, the makers of Wallace and Gromit's favourite cheese, have again bucked the downward trend in territorial cheese, with a 46% increase in pre-tax profits in the year to 31 March 2011.

The rise in profits up from £434,721 to £632,631 was down to cost savings throughout the business, said directors. Profitability was expected to increase further in 2012 as a result of cost-saving measures, they added.

Turnover was virtually unchanged, at £21.2m versus last year's £21.5m.
