Grant is responsible for Thresher Group’s buying and merchandising, reporting to chief operating officer John Risman who held the job before him (The Grocer, June 7, p20).
Grant moves from WH Smith where he was business unit director for entertainment. He has also worked as a buyer for Sainsbury and has held buying and category management jobs at Tesco.
The company said his appointment was intended to build on the commercial team’s work on new products and shop based initiatives this year.
Wetherell will drive development of the Thresher brand, and the roll-out of ranges such as Origin and Radcliffe’s to Thresher stores. He replaces Linda Burns, who is leaving the company for personal reasons.
Wetherell has been with the business for more than seven years.
