The Federation of Wholesale Distributors is stepping up its efforts to help independents get the most out of wine sales by launching a wine and food matching tool.
The Blueprint Wine Wheels are designed to hang on the fixture and enable customers and staff to find out what foods go with a certain wine.
Based on the wines that have been included in the FWD’s Wine Blueprint, the selector wheels categorise wines by grape varieties along with suitable meal options, such as Sauvignon Blanc for Thai dishes.
The FWD said the wine wheels were devised to help independents develop their wine knowledge and would be particularly useful to retailers whose religion did not allow them to drink.
Initially, 1,000 wheels are being printed and a website has also been set up offering more information.
The FWD said it was also revamping its Wine Blueprint with the updated version going live later this month.
