Whirlygig, Wychwood Brewery’s cask ale, will now be available in bottles and has already been selected as a finalist in the 2005 Asda Beer Competition.
The 4.5% abv beer was brewed as a seasonal cask ale for Wychwood in 2002, and it is now being launched into the off-trade.
“Whirlygig has bags of citrus fruit and it is luxuriously smooth and malty, with a delicate ruby colour,” said Wychwood’s head brewer, Jeremy Moss.
The ale will join three other finalists in the 2005 Asda Beer Competition.
The bestselling beer on shelf will become a permanent line at Asda when the competition draws to a close in January.
Whirlygig is now on shelf in all Asda stores, and is priced at £1.50.
It follows the success of Wychwood’s Wychcraft beer, which won a place on Tesco’s shelves after beating 70 other breweries to win Best Beer in the Tesco Brewing Awards, 2005.
