The collapse of Scottish forecourt operator Calanike Retailing has hit full-year profits at Scottish wholesaler JW Filshill.

Pre-tax profits fell 27.5% to £1.24m in the year to 31 January on sales up 0.2% to £169m.MD Simon Hannah said bad debts during the year were “much higher than in previous years due to a large multi-forecourt company defaulting”.

“There’s always a risk of bad debts in our business and as many of our customers have been unable to secure financing to develop their shops through the banks, it has become more of an issue,” he said. However, Hannah added he was satisfied with the performance in a “challenging trading environment”.
