Pricecheck has doubled its warehouse capacity to cope with an increase in demand.

The Sheffield-based wholesaler has expanded its operation by leasing the 197,000 sq ft former Maplin headquarters at Manvers in South Yorkshire. The additional space has allowed 32,000 additional pallets to be housed.

Pricecheck is investing £750,000 to fit out the new premises with pallet racking, sprinkler systems, specialist aerosol storage, forklifts and equipment.

The expansion will create 100 new jobs, with some existing employees relocating to the new site.

The family-owned business is also in the process of introducing a new warehouse management system to ensure a smooth process and efficient management of stock as well as co-ordinating operations across the two sites.

The project is due to go live within the next six months.

Joint MD of operations and finance Mark Lythe said the expansion would help to facilitate the company’s target of increasing turnover to £200m by 2025.

“We have ambitious growth targets and will continue to invest in all areas of the business to ensure we remain on track to achieve those,” said Lythe.

“Despite the challenges of coronavirus, we remain very confident about the long-term prospects for our business. The significant investment in our warehouse management system will also enable us to continue our fantastic growth in a controlled manner.”
