Asda own-label wines outshone the big brands at this week's London International Wine Fair.

Two of Asda's Smart Price wines, priced at £2.98 a bottle, were awarded bronze medals at the event following blind tasting of more than 10,000 variants by wine experts.

Other bargain wines offered by Asda, including its Portuguese Rosé (rsp £2.98) and its Marsanne (rsp £3.28), also picked up awards.

"Our result goes to show that you should never judge a wine by its label," said Asda master of wine Philippa Carr.
