Western Wines has pledged to “bring new life” to the Australian wine category with a new brand.

In a joint venture between Zonte’s Footstep winery, the distributor is launching a premium label of the same name at £7.99.

Zonte’s Footstep will debut as a blend of Shiraz and Viognier, which is intended to give consumers a New World take on the two classic grapes used in the French appellation of Côte-Rôtie.

The company said: “The wine is true to its Australian heritage but offers a new take on an Old World classic.”

A Cabernet/Malbec and a Grenache/Shiraz are in the pipeline and will be launched once the brand has established a position in the UK market.

The launch opens a new chapter for Western Wines which has recently been focused on developing the fortunes of the Chilean and South African categories, with its portfolio including the Cono Sur and Kumala brands.
