Robert Wiseman Dairies said first quarter sales volumes were 11% up on last year and that it would hold its price paid to milk suppliers despite reductions by two of its major competitors.

Chairman Alan Wiseman believes that milk prices will improve over the next few months and has told suppliers that the company will have to “realign its milk price closer to that of our major competitors”.

The Scottish milk processor confirmed that new business at Tesco and Sainsbury plus additional deliveries to 66 Somerfield/Kwiksave stores, had helped the efficiencies of its Bristol and Droitwich depots. The company will also deliver to a further 42 Iceland/Booker outlets later in the year.

Wiseman added that its potted cream business had been boosted by gaining the supply to an additional Tesco regional depot from October.
