Heineken buys Romanian brewer

Amsterdam: Heineken has acquired Romanian brewer Bere Mures for an undisclosed sum. Bere Mures, which makes Dracula, Neumarkt and Sovata beers, has a production capacity of 1.6 million hectolitres and employs 394 staff. Heineken said the deal would strengthen its number one position in the country by increasing its market share to 31% and its volume to six million hectolitres. "It creates a stronger, more diversified portfolio of leading brands and an excellent platform on which to build further value and growth," added Nico Nusmeier, regional president for Heineken central and eastern Europe.
