Mangoes have become the latest fruit to go miniature as retailers look to cash in on the trend for on-the-go snacking.

Tesco's launch this week of mini mangoes comes in the wake of mini bananas (bananitos) and doughnut-shaped peaches.

The retailer said the bite-sized fruit would provide consumers with a healthy, convenient snacking option that could be eaten with the minimum of fuss.

It predicted that the mini mangoes - known as Ma Prang in their native Thailand - would be particularly popular with parents looking to give their children healthier lunchbox food.
