Soft fruit supplier BerryWorld has announced it is quadrupling its production of the new Sweet Eve variety strawberries for this year's British strawberry season to meet growing demand from the mults.
The company said it would produce about 6,000 tonnes of Sweet Eve for the Co-op, M&S, Tesco and Waitrose this year 300% up on last year and would focus all future production on Sweet Eve.
Sweet Eve has been developed specifically for the British climate and was first trialled in the mults last year.
