Scottish whisky lovers have been weeping inconsolably into their single malts this week.

The cause of their distress? Some bright spark at Chivas Brothers’ Dumbarton bottling plant pulled the wrong lever and accidentally poured thousands of litres of bulk whisky down the drain. Oops.

The discharge was so severe Scottish Water had to be called in to ensure the booze didn’t pollute the sewer network. The water supply, perhaps to the disappointment of some, was also unaffected.
